World Cup winner directly criticised club board after Champions League defeat
Gary Neville argued on his podcast that Lisandro Martinez's public criticism of Manchester United's hierarchy provided a needed jolt to the squad. Martinez previously targeted director of football Jason Wilcox over recruitment following a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, before subsequently issuing an apology after meeting with CEO Omar Berrada and manager Michael Carrick.
While Neville noted such outbursts are typically unhelpful and put unfair pressure on teammates and the manager, he claimed the dressing room required a spark. Meanwhile, United drew 1-1 against Leeds on Sunday, extending their winless run to six games, with Martinez substituted at halftime due to a thigh injury.
