The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forward Dominic Toninato to their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. The procedural move comes during a five-day break in the Blackhawks' schedule, allowing the team to manage his waiver eligibility window. Toninato is slated to play for Rockford against the Grand Rapids Griffins to remain eligible for a future recall before Chicago plays again on October 23.
Toninato has played three scoreless games with Chicago this season while filling in as an injury replacement and averaging 8:52 of ice time. His potential return to the NHL roster may be short-lived, as forward Andrew Mangiapane is reportedly expected to return from injured reserve in the near future.
