The Chicago Cubs will likely need an outfielder this offseason, and that could point them in the direction of a division rival.

Writer Jordan Campbell suggests the Chicago Cubs should target Cincinnati Reds outfielder JJ Bleday via trade to serve as a platoon partner for Matt Shaw. With Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ potentially departing, relying solely on Shaw and Pedro Ramirez in the outfield could expose offensive vulnerabilities against right-handed pitching.
Campbell argues that Bleday is an affordable target under team control through 2028 who excelled against righties with 18 home runs and a 114 wRC+. A trade centered on lower-level prospects could preserve infield depth while addressing Chicago's outfield needs.
