A year after Dave Dombrowski put Bryce Harper on blast, the top Phillies executive turned his biting criticism toward Trea Turner.

Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski warned shortstop Trea Turner that he must improve defensively by spring training or face a position change. Turner, 33, experienced a challenging 2026 campaign where he hit .242 with a .675 OPS and recorded a league-worst 21 errors at shortstop. Dombrowski met with Turner at Citizens Bank Park, declaring that defensive improvement is mandatory if he intends to remain at shortstop for the 2027 season.
Turner has seven years and $190 million remaining on his contract, along with a full no-trade clause. If Turner fails to improve, the Phillies could shift him to the outfield, move second baseman Bryson Stott to shortstop, or turn to top infield prospects Aidan Miller and Bryan Rincon.
