Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has stated that Jasprit Bumrah should not play all three formats leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. Speaking to The Times of India, Shastri argued that India must carefully manage Bumrah's workload, suggesting the fast bowler focus primarily on Test cricket while playing only sporadically in ODIs and T20Is.
Bumrah will miss the five-match ODI series in New Zealand to preserve his fitness for red-ball matches. Shastri also backed recalls for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, while noting that India faces an uphill battle to qualify for the World Test Championship final.
