All the preseason buzz out of Sacramento had been positive about Simmons' comeback, and now this.

Sacramento Kings player Ben Simmons suffered a torn right Achilles during practice on Sunday and will undergo surgery, the team announced. Although no official timeline was established by the team, the 30-year-old is expected to miss the entire 2026-27 NBA season. Simmons had recently returned to basketball after taking a year off to recover physically and mentally from persistent back issues.
The setback disrupts Sacramento's lineup plans, as head coach Doug Christie was expected to start Simmons on opening night. Simmons had been performing well during the preseason, averaging 10.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in limited minutes. The Kings must now adjust their rotation, which features Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, Keegan Murray, and rookie Darius Acuff Jr.
