Cubs’ front office gets first shake-up of offseason as Jared Banner joins the Orioles

Chicago Cubs assistant general manager Jared Banner has left the organization to become the new general manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Banner will work under Baltimore's president of baseball operations, Mike Elias, ending a search for a general manager that lasted over a year. Banner joined the Cubs in 2020 after previous stints with the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets.

In Baltimore, Banner will oversee player development, coaching, and performance following consecutive sub-.500 seasons for the Orioles. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer faces the departure of a key executive as Chicago enters the offseason following a second-place finish in the NL Central and an early postseason exit.
