The Carolina Hurricanes saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end following a 3-2 defeat against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday night. Forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi provided a bright spot for Carolina, scoring his second goal in consecutive games while filling a larger role amid forward absences.
Carolina played without four regular forwards, including Jordan Staal, Taylor Hall, Seth Jarvis, and Mark Jankowski, who suffered a lower-body injury. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour criticized the team's sloppy defensive play and struggling penalty kill, noting that Jankowski returned to Raleigh for further medical evaluation.
