The Detroit Tigers face an early offseason decision regarding closer Kenley Jansen's contract option. Detroit has until five days following the conclusion of the World Series to either exercise a $12 million club option for the 2027 season or buy out the deal for $2 million.
Jansen posted 22 saves and a 3.20 ERA during the season but struggled in high-leverage situations, allowing six blown saves and four walk-off home runs. President of baseball operations Scott Harris noted that Jansen underperformed in critical moments despite strong overall strikeout and hit-prevention metrics.
