Athletics hire ex-Red Sox, Rays exec. Smith as president of baseball ops.

The Athletics have officially hired Taylor Smith as their new president of baseball operations on Monday. The decision comes two months after the franchise announced that former general manager David Forst would not be returning next season. Smith will help lead the organization during its final year in West Sacramento, California, ahead of its planned relocation to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.

Smith joins the Athletics after spending the previous two years serving as the assistant general manager for the Boston Red Sox, along with a seven-season tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Athletics finished the season with a 64-98 record under interim general manager Dan Feinstein, who stepped in following the departure of Forst.
