The Story in 60 Seconds

Wales head coach Steve Tandy has appointed referee Ben Whitehouse to the men's national coaching staff on a full-time basis as a specialist coach. The Welsh Rugby Union announced on Monday that Whitehouse will focus on the principles of law, discipline, decision-making, and communication with both coaches and players.

The appointment mirrors Rassie Erasmus' hiring of former Test referee Jaco Peyper to the Springbok management team in 2024. The 36-year-old Whitehouse will officially retire from refereeing following Saturday's United Rugby Championship match between the Ospreys and Dragons in Swansea.
