Red Sox report cards: Plenty of mixed grades across Boston’s roster

Boston.com's Conor Ryan evaluated the Boston Red Sox position players following their 2026 season, awarding mixed grades after the team's campaign ended against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. First baseman Willson Contreras and center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela earned top marks with 'A+' grades for their standout offensive and defensive production under manager Chad Tracy.

Conversely, Ryan assigned low grades of 'D-' to veterans Trevor Story and Jarren Duran due to significant struggles at the plate, injuries, and declining production. Young outfielder Roman Anthony also received a 'D' following an injury-shortened year, while trade addition Adley Rutschman received a 'C' after experiencing offensive difficulties in Boston.
