Yankees trade rumors could hand the Reds another reclamation project

Drew Koch of Blog Red Machine argues that the Cincinnati Reds should pursue a trade for New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil. According to reporting from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Gil faces being non-tendered next month, prompting the Yankees to explore trade options before November 20. The 2024 AL Rookie of the Year struggled through injury and command issues in 2026, pitching in only nine games.

Koch suggests that Reds executive Nick Krall target Gil as a low-risk, high-upside option to reinforce Cincinnati's 2027 rotation. The Reds face depth concerns with Hunter Greene sidelined following Tommy John surgery and Brady Singer approaching free agency. Gil is projected to earn $2.3 million in arbitration and is out of minor-league options.
