Sean Higgins, the driver accused of killing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, has officially rejected a plea agreement and will proceed to trial. Higgins faces multiple charges, including aggravated manslaughter and driving under the influence, stemming from the fatal August 2024 collision in New Jersey while the brothers were riding bicycles.
The rejected plea deal carried a 28-year sentence, whereas Higgins faces up to 91 and a half years if convicted on all counts. Judge Michael Silvanio announced that jury selection will begin on December 1, with the trial resuming on January 4 following a holiday recess.
