The 49ers dominated in the first half but had to hold off a second-half Commanders rally.

The San Francisco 49ers held off a second-half comeback by the Washington Commanders to secure a 23-17 victory on Monday night. After San Francisco built a 20-3 halftime lead, Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels threw two second-half touchdowns to pull the Commanders within striking distance. A fourth-down pass breakup by safety Malik Mustapha and a late sack by Romello Height and Keion White sealed the win for San Francisco.
San Francisco's offense slowed considerably after wide receiver Mike Evans left the game due to an aggravated right Achilles injury. Brock Purdy completed 21 of 29 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown, while Christian McCaffrey recorded 25 touches for 117 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns to help the 49ers survive Evans' departure.
