James Maddison’s return brought a goal and Tottenham’s first Premier League win of the season, as Spurs beat Coventry City 3-1.

James Maddison scored on his first Tottenham Hotspur start since May 2025, inspiring a 3-1 victory over Coventry City to secure their first Premier League win of the season. Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Mohammed Kudus before being substituted in the 69th minute by manager Roberto De Zerbi to a standing ovation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Coventry City equalized through Jack Rudoni, but Omar Marmoush restored Tottenham's lead and Ben Davies sealed the win in stoppage time following an error by goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The match also featured the return of Dejan Kulusevski, who made a late appearance as a substitute after missing 526 days due to a knee injury.
