A Maple Leafs trade pitch would bring Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson to Toronto in exchange for a $14 million veteran. Here's how.

A trade proposal published via PuckGM outlines a hypothetical deal sending restricted free-agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson from the Detroit Red Wings to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, Detroit would receive veteran defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, prospects Tinus Luc Koblar and Ben Danford, alongside a first-round and second-round draft pick. Edvinsson remains an unsigned holdout in Sweden and reportedly prefers a trade.
The writer argues that while the trade package gives Toronto a top defenseman, it may not be Detroit's best resolution. Edvinsson is reportedly seeking an annual salary between $9 million and $11 million on a maximum seven-year contract, while Ekman-Larsson is signed to a four-year, $14 million deal through 2027-28.
