The Nuggets opted not to extend Julian Strawther before the season, and he'll be a restricted free agent next summer. It's the smart move.

Writer David Decker argues that the Denver Nuggets made the correct decision by not agreeing to a rookie-scale extension with guard Julian Strawther before the deadline. The decision means the 24-year-old will head into restricted free agency next summer, following a preseason knee sprain expected to sideline him for six weeks.
According to Decker, passing on an early deal preserves critical salary cap flexibility for Denver. The Nuggets currently face luxury tax apron constraints and can evaluate Strawther's recovery before deciding whether to match outside offers.
