The Story in 60 Seconds

NASCAR has fined Front Row Motorsports driver Zane Smith $50,000 for ramming into Carson Hocevar after the NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway. Smith was angered by an on-track incident in the final 15 laps that dropped him to 15th place. Following the checkered flag, Smith accelerated to speeds approaching 140mph and struck the back of Hocevar's No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, which was traveling roughly 30mph slower.

NASCAR classified the collision as a safety violation under Sections 4.4a and 10.5.2.5a of the Rule Book, issuing a financial fine without docking points. The penalty follows an ongoing feud between the two drivers, who previously collided at Chicagoland in July and were summoned to the NASCAR hauler.
