Jaden McDaniels' new deal will look like a bargain if he becomes what the Timberwolves expect, but it's not a risk-free move.

The Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a one-year, $40 million contract extension with forward Jaden McDaniels, keeping him under contract through the 2029-30 season. Writer Chris Schad argues that while the deal carries risk and sticker shock for fans, it represents a worthwhile gamble for the franchise as the NBA salary cap continues to rise.
Schad notes that McDaniels posted career highs of 14.8 points per game and 41.2 percent from 3-point range last season. Minnesota hopes McDaniels' offensive growth will ensure the deal becomes a bargain alongside major future financial commitments to Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball.
