The San Francisco 49ers released defensive tackle Naquan Jones on Tuesday, the team announced. The move came one day after the 49ers improved to 6-0 with a 23-17 Monday night victory over the Washington Commanders at Levi’s Stadium.
The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they have released six-year veteran defensive tackle Naquan Jones. The move comes following the team's 23-17 Monday night victory against the Washington Commanders, which improved San Francisco's record to 6-0. Jones originally joined the team on September 23 after being signed off the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad to provide interior defensive line depth.
Jones played in three games for San Francisco, logging two tackles, before being named a healthy scratch as James Thompson Jr. returned from injury. The transaction was reportedly made to manage the roster, opening up a spot for linebacker Dre Greenlaw following a one-game suspension and possibly facilitating wide receiver Christian Kirk's return from injured reserve.
