The UFC reportedly pitched former middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis a four-man tournament to earn a light heavyweight title shot. Du Plessis' head coach, Morne Visser, revealed the promotion's offer for a 205-pound Grand Prix, which the fighter ultimately turned down to prioritize regaining his 185-pound championship.
Du Plessis recently secured a dominant unanimous decision win over Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City following his middleweight title loss to Khamzat Chimaev. Although Du Plessis is cutting around 45 pounds and plans to pursue a second division title at 205 pounds in the future, his primary goal remains reclaiming the middleweight belt.
