In the latest episode of official podcast F1 Beyond the Grid, Mercedes’ Third Driver Fred Vesti has opened up about his ‘very different’ approach to joining the team.

Mercedes third driver Frederik Vesti revealed on the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast that he joined the team's junior programme after directly approaching Team Principal Toto Wolff at a red-carpet party in Hockenheim. Competing in Formula 3 in 2021, Vesti stopped Wolff to ask how he could become a junior driver, a bold approach he believes earned Wolff's respect.
Now serving as Mercedes' reserve driver, Vesti conducts extensive simulator testing while supporting main drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. The 24-year-old Danish driver emphasised that his goal of racing in Formula 1 remains strong, expressing firm confidence that he will eventually secure a full-time seat on the grid.
