It sounds like the New York Mets are looking for some level of Pete Crow-Armstrong payback if they are adding John Mallee to their coaching wish list.

The New York Mets are reportedly considering John Mallee alongside Kevin Long as candidates for hitting coach positions. According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, Mallee possesses a close relationship with Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, whom the Mets previously traded away. Mallee is credited with aiding Crow-Armstrong's offensive surge into a 45-home-run hitter.
Rising Apple's Tim Boyle argues that hiring Mallee would represent a form of payback for the Mets while boosting their young left-handed hitters. Boyle highlights the Chicago Cubs' offensive success in 2026 under Mallee, citing their top ranks in team OPS and runs scored, and favors Mallee over other veteran candidates.
