Francis Mauigoa’s rough start has the New York Giants looking twice at Vega Ioane, who’s making their draft-day decision harder to defend.

Writer Matt Sidney argues that the New York Giants may already regret selecting Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa over Penn State guard Vega Ioane in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Giants acquired the No. 10 pick by trading Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals and transitioned Mauigoa to right guard. Through six weeks, Mauigoa has struggled with a 46.1 Pro Football Focus grade, allowing 13 pressures and four quarterback hits.
In contrast, the Baltimore Ravens selected Ioane four picks later at No. 14, where he has impressed with a 69.6 PFF grade and stepped in at center. Sidney questions New York's decision to draft a tackle to convert inside rather than choosing a natural guard, though he notes it is still too early to completely write off the 21-year-old rookie.
