Oscar Piastri has admitted that McLaren is unlikely to solve the performance issues with its MCL40 car before the end of the 2026 Formula 1 season. With six races remaining, the Australian driver stated that the car has largely reached its limit under the current regulations, remarking that the team does not expect any magic answers this year. Team principal Andrea Stella confirmed that the vehicle's underlying problems will not be resolved until 2027.
Piastri, who sits seventh in the championship with 138 points, described the car's performance as inconsistent and praised teammate Lando Norris for outperforming the car's true capabilities. Reigning constructors' champion McLaren holds third place with 339 points, just seven points ahead of Red Bull entering the United States Grand Prix.
