The Story in 60 Seconds

The New York Giants are reportedly naming quarterback J.J. McCarthy as their starter over veteran Jameis Winston for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. Head coach John Harbaugh initially benched Winston in the fourth quarter against the New Orleans Saints on October 18, where McCarthy nearly engineered a comeback by completing 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown in a 34-27 loss.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, New York's struggling running game was a major factor in the decision. With starter Jaxson Dart out for the season, McCarthy's mobility is expected to better execute the offense originally designed for Dart and provide a spark on the ground.
