The Story in 60 Seconds

Miami Marlins reliever Victor Vodnik and retired franchise pitcher Ricky Nolasco share a unique bond as two of only three Major League Baseball players from Rialto High School in California. After Vodnik was traded from the Colorado Rockies to Miami in August, Nolasco reached out to congratulate and support him. Nolasco originally mentored Vodnik at their high school in 2018 before Vodnik was drafted.

Nolasco continues to offer guidance to Vodnik while following his career from afar. Vodnik was traded to Miami with a 98.6 mph fastball velocity after recording a 5.25 ERA in 33 appearances for Colorado in 2026. Both pitchers returned earlier this year to Rialto High School to unveil new baseball field lights, inspiring the next generation.
