"Jaylen is the security blanket that is now gone on the Jayson Tatum superstar bed."

Bill Simmons criticized the Boston Celtics and Jayson Tatum following their season-opening 121-113 loss to the Detroit Pistons. Boston surrendered a 22-point third-quarter lead, which included conceding a 23-0 fourth-quarter run to Detroit. Simmons characterized Tatum's 13-point, 6-for-23 shooting performance as "terrible" and argued that Tatum appeared to panic and press during the final period.
Simmons noted that following the offseason trade of Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia, Tatum now faces elevated pressure without his longtime co-star. Despite Paul George scoring 38 points, Simmons expressed concerns over Boston's lineup rotations under head coach Joe Mazzulla and Tatum's burst around the rim, calling Brown the "security blanket" Tatum no longer possesses.
