The Athletics are considering hiring a general manager to serve as the number-two front office executive under newly appointed president of baseball operations Taylor Smith. Team owner John Fisher indicated the potential move during Smith's introductory press conference on Monday. The Athletics previously used a similar two-tier hierarchy when Billy Beane and David Forst led the front office.
Despite the leadership transition, manager Mark Kotsay will remain in his role, supported by a contract extension running through 2028 with a 2029 club option. Smith voiced strong support for Kotsay, expressing eagerness to partner with the sixth-year skipper.
