New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston acknowledged and accepted the team's decision to name J.J. McCarthy the starting quarterback for Sunday's matchup against the Houston Texans. Head coach John Harbaugh announced the change following New York's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, during which Winston was benched in the fourth quarter after throwing two interceptions.
Winston went 2-1-1 as a starter after replacing injured rookie Jaxson Dart earlier in the season. McCarthy, acquired from the Minnesota Vikings in September for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick, led three scoring drives in relief against the Saints and will make his first Giants start with New York currently leading the NFC East at 3-2-1.
