The former Aberdeen, Hamilton Accies and Scotland defender has faced his own battles…

Former Scotland defender Michael Devlin has advocated for the benefits of therapy in response to controversial comments by Derry City player James McLean. While McLean stated he viewed therapy as a weakness for a man, Devlin argued that mental health support should be embraced and treated as an essential resource rather than a stigma within football.
Devlin detailed his own personal struggles with isolation and depression caused by recurring injuries during his spell at Aberdeen. Having retired from professional playing at age 32, Devlin now serves as Head of Projects with PFA Scotland, where he promotes psychological support and resources like the Sporting Chance helpline for players across the Scottish leagues.
