The Boston Celtics trotted out a starting lineup of Derrick White, Jordan Walsh, Jayson Tatum, Paul George, and Mitchell Robinson in the team’s Opening Day loss — but it might not be the team’s best. In fact, its best might…

Ryan Paice argues that the Boston Celtics' most effective lineup during their Opening Day loss to Detroit featured Derrick White, Sam Hauser, Jayson Tatum, Paul George, and Neemias Queta. Boston used a starting unit of White, Jordan Walsh, Tatum, George, and Mitchell Robinson, but Paice highlights that the unit with Hauser and Queta outscored Detroit 18-4 during a five-minute stretch in the second quarter before Boston ultimately lost.
According to the analysis, the Hauser-Queta configuration posted a game-high 136.4 net rating behind a 172.7 offensive rating. Paice suggests Hauser provides vital three-point shooting volume compared to Walsh, while Queta benefits from existing team chemistry over newcomer Robinson. Paice concludes that while head coach Joe Mazzulla continues experimenting with rotations, this group could push for starting consideration if its effectiveness proves sustainable.
