Joe Root reached the milestone in his 186th innings, scoring 69 off 66 balls to become the 34th overall batter to cross 8,000 runs in one-day internationals.
Joe Root has made history by becoming the first England batter and the 34th player overall to cross 8,000 runs in one-day internationals. He reached the milestone during his 186th ODI innings, scoring 69 off 66 balls against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi during a tri-nation series.
Root's performance marked his 49th ODI half-century and extended his lead as England's all-time highest run-scorer in the format, having previously passed Eoin Morgan. His 186 innings to reach 8,000 runs ranks him behind only Virat Kohli, Hashim Amla, and AB de Villiers.
