Dale Earnhardt Jr. has renewed his long-standing criticism of Phoenix Raceway's track reconfiguration, particularly the decision to pave and bank the dogleg area. He expressed frustration that NASCAR has long tolerated the shortcut despite chaotic restarts and physical discomfort for drivers.
His comments follow an announcement from NASCAR Cup Series Senior Managing Director Brad Moran regarding plans to improve the dogleg apron transition before the 2027 season. While NASCAR may smooth out the bumpy transition that strains cars and tires, it remains unconfirmed whether officials will actively limit drivers from cutting the dogleg as Earnhardt prefers.
