The New York Giants are making a major change at quarterback, turning to J.J. McCarthy as their starter heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans.
The New York Giants have named J.J. McCarthy their new starting quarterback ahead of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. Head coach John Harbaugh announced the decision on Wednesday, benching veteran Jameis Winston. McCarthy takes over following an impressive relief showing in a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, where he threw for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception across three scoring drives.
New York acquired McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings on September 28 in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick. The move gives McCarthy his first start for the Giants after previous starter Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier in the campaign.
