The Story in 60 Seconds

Chicago Cubs director of player development Jason Kanzler has emerged as a candidate for the Seattle Mariners' vacant managerial position, according to a report by The Athletic. Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto is seeking outside leadership to bring fresh perspectives, new messaging, and updated programming to the franchise following a disappointing 76-86 season and the dismissal of Dan Wilson.

Zachary Rymer of Sodo Mojo argues that despite lacking major league managerial experience, the 36-year-old Kanzler represents a sensible target. Kanzler previously served as a coach under Dusty Baker with the Houston Astros, winning a World Series in 2022, and has worked alongside Craig Counsell in Chicago since 2024.
