ESPN insiders Jeremy Fowler and Ian Rapoport offered new insight into J.J. McCarthy's future with the Giants after the former Vikings QB's impressive Week 6 performance.

NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Jeremy Fowler reported that quarterback J.J. McCarthy's emergence as the New York Giants' starter is increasingly a matter of when, not if. McCarthy nearly led a fourth-quarter comeback in a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, replacing Jameis Winston to complete 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh is evaluating whether to start McCarthy against the Houston Texans or wait until after the Week 8 bye to allow him more time to learn the offense. New York acquired the former first-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings on September 28 for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.
