Bruno’s betrayal? ‘Toxic’ Fernandes is symptom of United’s culture of entitlement

The Guardian's Jamie Jackson argues that Bruno Fernandes has betrayed head coach Michael Carrick by publicly questioning his tactics after a 4-1 loss to Como. A high-ranking Manchester United source described the 32-year-old captain as "toxic" following his comments about the coaching staff's decision not to press during the match. Jackson suggests Carrick should consider stripping Fernandes of the captaincy ahead of Sunday's match against Bournemouth, noting Harry Maguire or Youri Tielemans as potential replacements.

Jackson places Fernandes's outburst alongside Lisandro Martínez's recent public criticism of director of football Jason Wilcox, which resulted in a fine. The column asserts that these incidents highlight a widespread culture of entitlement inside the dressing room and expose serious fault lines in Carrick's management. Fernandes was substituted after 67 minutes for Joshua Zirkzee during the defeat, further intensifying questions surrounding his role and future at the club.
