36-year-old Nick Martinez will start World Series opening game for AL champion Rays.

The Tampa Bay Rays have selected Nick Martinez as their starting pitcher for Game 1 of the 2026 World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The series opener is scheduled for Friday night in Milwaukee, where Martinez will take the mound opposite Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski.
Tampa Bay decided to start Martinez despite having ace Drew Rasmussen available on regular rest. Both franchises enter the Fall Classic seeking their first World Series title, with Milwaukee hosting after sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers to secure the National League pennant.
