The World Series hasn’t even started yet, but that’s not stopping the Red Sox from beginning to accumulate depth heading into 2027. They've reached agreement on a minor league deal with a veteran catcher.

The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement on a minor league contract with former Washington Nationals catcher Riley Adams. The deal includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training, though the 30-year-old will initially remain off the 40-man roster. Adams is the team's first outside free agent acquisition ahead of the 2027 season.
Adams spent five seasons with Washington, accumulating 263 career major league appearances with 21 home runs. He spent 2026 primarily at Triple-A Rochester, where he hit .273 with 16 home runs and an .894 OPS. Boston signed Adams to bolster organizational catching depth behind Adley Rutschman, Connor Wong, and Mickey Gasper.
