Joost van Aken’s time with Sheffield Wednesday was unique. Here, for the first time, he unpacks his Owls experience in conversation with Alex Miller.

Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Joost van Aken reflected on his injury-hit four-year stint with the club in an interview with Alex Miller. The 32-year-old Dutchman expressed pride in his career despite recurring physical setbacks that limited his playing time. He signed from Heerenveen in 2017 for a fee exceeding £3 million under manager Carlos Carvalhal before departing following the club's relegation.
Now retired from professional football for two and a half years, van Aken resides in Amsterdam. He currently manages two padel centers, runs an interview-based YouTube channel, and recently completed his coaching badges.
