Key Things to Know
  • Villa Park's North Stand is closed for the 2026-27 season to undergo a major stadium redevelopment.
  • The ongoing redevelopment will expand the North Stand to hold over 12,000 fans and raise overall capacity to 52,500.

The Story in 60 Seconds

Aston Villa have temporarily closed Villa Park's North Stand for the 2026-27 season as part of a major redevelopment project. The closure temporarily reduces the stadium's capacity below 37,000, but the rebuilt stand will eventually hold over 12,000 spectators and push overall ground capacity to 52,500. Manager Unai Emery and players have had to adapt to playing in a three-sided stadium, while contractor Kingscote Construction advances structural work.

Closing the stand for a single season reportedly costs the club roughly £6 million in lost revenue. The entire project is budgeted at £110 million and financed through £150 million in private placement bonds organized by Goldman Sachs. In addition to expanding seating, the renovation will add new dressing rooms, offices, and training facilities to accelerate long-term revenue growth.
