The Senators power play got a little too casual on defence on Thursday night as the club fell to 0-3 in games where they'd played the night before.

The Ottawa Senators were defeated 6-2 by the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night at Canadian Tire Centre. Despite outshooting San Jose 43-28, Ottawa suffered from major defensive breakdowns in the second period, conceding three unanswered goals within four minutes. Tim Stützle and Jordan Spence scored for Ottawa, while Colin Graf and Jacob Trouba each recorded a goal and an assist for the visiting Sharks.
Ottawa struggled during power-play situations, allowing a shorthanded goal to Graf before Trouba scored unopposed in front of netminder Samuel Ersson. Yaroslav Askarov made key saves for San Jose, while Zack Ostapchuk and Ivar Stenberg sealed the win with empty-net goals. The loss dropped head coach Travis Green's team to 0-3-0 in the second half of back-to-back games this season.
