The Story in 60 Seconds

Recent defeats for Celtic and Hearts in European competitions have dealt a severe blow to Scotland's UEFA coefficient ranking. Martin O'Neill's Celtic suffered a third straight Europa League defeat against Celta Vigo, dropping to 35th in the league phase. Meanwhile, Hearts fell to Trabzonspor in the Conference League, leaving Wouter Vrancken's side with just one point from two matches.

The disappointing results have dropped Scotland down to 21st place in the rankings after Sweden moved ahead. Across 29 European matches this season, Scottish clubs have managed only seven wins, leaving the nation well behind the critical top-15 cutoff needed to secure five European qualification spots.
