The Miami Heat opened their season and the Giannis Antetokounmpo era with a 131-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Kaseya Center. Antetokounmpo scored 35 points in his debut, but Minnesota's Anthony Edwards countered with 45 points and 10 rebounds. Following the defeat, Heat center Bam Adebayo stressed that the team failed to meet its defensive identity.
Adebayo emphasized that roster turnover and chemistry adjustments cannot serve as excuses for poor execution. He pointed specifically to defensive breakdowns and rebounding struggles, noting that Minnesota pulled down 17 offensive rebounds and converted them into 20 second-chance points.
