Liverpool take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday but the man in the middle has previous with the Reds…

Referee Samuel Barrott has been selected to officiate Liverpool's upcoming Premier League fixture against Brighton, with Michael Oliver handling VAR duties. Barrott previously officiated Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in August, during which he awarded a controversial penalty against goalkeeper Alisson following contact with Neco Williams. That match saw Morgan Gibbs-White score from the spot before Victor Munoz secured a late equalizer.
The Premier League's Key Match Incidents panel later concluded that Barrott made an on-field error by awarding the penalty, ruling Alisson's contact inevitable. Liverpool enters the clash following a 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal under manager Andoni Iraola, while Brighton approaches the fixture after a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace and a midweek European draw against Jablonec.
