General Motors has announced that Cadillac's Formula 1 engine factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, will officially open on December 18. GM was approved by the FIA as a power unit supplier beginning with the 2029 season, giving the manufacturer time to develop its proprietary engine. GM president Mark Reuss revealed the opening date during an Autosport Business Exchange conference in New York.
Cadillac currently runs customer Ferrari engines in its maiden 2026 campaign, where it remains the only team without a championship point. Reuss thanked veteran drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas for remaining patient as the organization works through early developmental challenges to improve its performance.
