Kovac was the Frankfurt coach from 2016 to 2018.

Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac spoke about his past tenure at Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash between the two teams at Signal Iduna Park. Kovac, who led Frankfurt to a DFB-Pokal victory in 2018, noted that he remains attached to his former side but emphasized that his focus is entirely dedicated to Dortmund.
After taking charge of BVB in January 2025 following Nuri Sahin's exit, Kovac guided the team to a Bundesliga runners-up finish in his first full season. Having recently signed an extension through June 2029, Kovac stated that his primary ambition remains bringing silverware to Dortmund, who currently sit second in the league table.
