The Toronto Maple Leafs decided not to recall Ben Danford amid injuries, as Jim Hiller explained why the team didn't call him up.

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Jim Hiller explained that the organization decided against recalling top prospect Ben Danford to avoid rushing his development. Despite injuries on the blue line to Chris Tanev, Nick Blankenburg, and Marshall Rifai, the team preferred that the 20-year-old defenseman continue gaining valuable experience with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
Rather than promoting Danford, Toronto recalled defensemen Dakota Mermis and Cole McWard from the Marlies due to their professional experience. The Maple Leafs, holding a 6-4-2 record, made the roster moves while preparing for an upcoming road matchup against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
